What is Proposition 65?

Proposition 65 is a California law, officially the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. It requires businesses to give a clear warning before knowingly exposing people in California to any of the chemicals on a list the state maintains. The list has more than 900 entries and is updated regularly.

A Proposition 65 warning is a right-to-know notice. It does not mean a product breaks any safety rule or is unsafe to use as directed.

Why supplements can carry a warning

Some listed substances, such as lead, occur naturally in soil and water, and plants take them up as they grow. Trace amounts can therefore be present in foods and in supplements made with plant-based or mineral ingredients, even when nothing has been added.

California’s warning thresholds are set well below the levels used by federal agencies, so a product can meet federal standards and still require a California warning.

NuRev Energy products

When a NuRev Energy product requires a Proposition 65 warning, the warning is shown on that product’s page and on its label. The standard wording for foods and supplements is:

WARNING: Consuming this product can expose you to chemicals including lead, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/food.
